Best Play Kitchen For Kids 2020
If you want a toy that can keep kids engaged and playing for hours, a play kitchen fits the bill. They’re perfect for solo play as well as group play, and appeal equally to boys and girls.
Children do need to let their imaginations run when they are into pretend play, and these kitchen playsets are a great way for them to express themselves whilst having fun.
They make wonderful Christmas gifts as the 'main present'.
When looking for the best play kitchen for your child, you'll have plenty to choose from. There are different styles and construction types that provide you with a wide range of choice depending on your circumstances. It's a personal preference really, and we cover our best play kitchen selections in the buyers guide below.
Play Kitchen Buyers Guide
Play kitchens are one of the best large toys you can get to aid small children's development. They help advance kids creativity and imagination, their learning skills, social interaction as they play with others, and essential motor skills.
Play kitchens are quite bulky, and you need to ensure you have enough space for one at home, before you buy. Whether it's to be located in the kitchen/diner area so children can copy adult activity firsthand, or in their playroom or bedroom, kids'll need enough space to move freely around it. This is particularly the case if several kids will be playing with it at the same time, and especially if it is one that needs 360 degree access, like the Step2 Grand Walk-in Kitchen.
Think of a kitchen playset as a planned purchase rather than something bought on impulse.
Plastic or Wood Construction?
You have a straight choice in what materials your play kitchen is made of - wood or plastic. Both types have their pros and cons.
Plastic play kitchens are easy to wipe clean, are lightweight - therefore easier to move around, and can use color more readily in their designs. They tend to be smaller than wooden types and take up less room. They are simple to assemble. They are not as durable as wooden units though.
Wooden play kitchens tend to look a lot more like the real thing, are much stronger, and are a lot more durable because of their method of construction. However, they do take longer to assemble, are much heavier to move around, and are not as easy to clean.
Both types use plastic components anyway. Like oven knobs, hooks and handles.
These are bulky toys and will need some assembly before they can be played with. Full instructions are supplied by the manufacturer for easy assembly, but it is strongly recommended that with both plastic and wooden versions, powertools are NOT used. They can easily strip screw threads and split panels.
Some pretend kitchens are supplied with accessories, but not all. They're needed to enhance the playing experience and so you may need to buy some separately. Fortunately there are plenty of play kitchen supplies that can be bought like cooking utensils, play food and cups and saucers (in wood or plastic) to maximise the play value of the furniture.
Accessories make good gift ideas for kids you know, who already have a play kitchen of their own.
